Back to winning for 2s.

With Christmas celebrations taking place and players unavailable for other reasons, Llanishen 2s had only 16 players for their game away to Caerau Ely. Constant heavy rain suited the home side who had a big physical pack who dominated the early part of the game, and they opened the scoring after a series of drives by the forwards led to a try which was converetd, the visitors first points came from a penalty by outside half Sam Williams. Llanishen then had a good period of possession and after several breaks by the backs had come to nothing they eventually got their first try from hooker Stuart Collins, a very popular score with his teammates as it was the first try he had ever scored. Late in the half Caerau regained the lead with a penalty but the visitors went into the lead at half time when youth team centre Alex Kinsey, playing his first game of senior rugby, crossed for a try, converted by Steve Evans. Alex follows his father, three brothers and brother-in-law in playing senior rugby for the club! The see-saw pattern of scoring continued in the second half, Caerau regained the lead with a penalty, cancelled out by one from Evans, then took the lead again with another try, crucially the conversion was missed. Indisipline by the home side saw them have a player sin-binned, Llanishen pressed had but it looked like the home side would hold out but with the very last play slick handling led to Elian Owen crossing in the corner, the conversion was missed but it didn't matter. Final score Caerau Ely 2s 22 Llanishen 2s 23
