A first for Llanishen.

Players from Canada, Czech Republic, America, Austria, Italy and Germany have turned out for the club in the past few years, as well of couse from Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales!

Well now another country can be added to that list, Finland. Jami Honkanen is studying nursing in Cardiff and contacted the club to ask if he could train with us.

In his homeland the main sports are football and ice hockey, and he hadn't heard of rugby until serving in the army, when one of his colleagues introduced him to it. He liked that the sport welcomed players of all shapes and sizes and the principles of the game, such as respect for other players and officials, and so joined the Tampere Rugby Club.

In Finland the season runs from May to October with a few indoor 7s competitions taking place in the winter.

Jami said " I would like to thank everyone at Llanishen RFC for making me so welcome and giving me the opportunity to train and I look forward to passing on what I have learned when I return home".
