Money raised for Cancer Research Wales goes to clinical and laboratory based cancer research in universities and hospitals across Wales. That’s where the breakthroughs are taking place. It’s where our scientists are finding answers to the questions that are being asked by cancer researchers all over the world. They’re questions that cover many different types of cancer, from prostate to breast to blood, and many more. And as well as focusing on these site-specific diseases, our research takes us into the fundamental processes of cancer biology. That means we’re looking at why and how cancer cells grow, invade and spread, and why some resist treatment. All of this is being done in universities and hospitals across Wales, including radiotherapy research at Velindre Cancer Centre, which is a centre of excellence for the non-surgical treatment of cancer, and home of the Cancer Research Wales Laboratories. As well as laboratory based research, Cancer Research Wales, fund large population based studies that seek to address some of the fundamental cancer-related issues that face the people of Wales, such as prevention and improving early diagnosis We’re proud to be funding some of the most innovative cancer research in the world. This gives hope to people and families with cancer, and helps to bring better treatments and potential cures closer to home.
