Lions cup triumph.

Llanishen met near neighbours Rhiwbina in the final of the Ninian Stuart Cup, held at Cardiff Arms Park.

Rhiwbina were in control early on and took the lead with an early penalty and with the wind behind them were using long kicks to gain territory. One of these kicks failed to find touch, full back Gareth Vaterlaws ran it back, quick recycling by the pack and the ball was fed to centre Luke Bishop to score the opening try and a few minutes later he added a second.

Llanishen were now dominating and extended their lead with a penalty from Dylan Evans and with the last play of the half Evans crossed for a try, half time Llanishen 18 Rhiwbina 3.

The half time break didn't affect Llanishen and a well worked backs move saw ex Rhiwbina player Ross McKenzie cross under the posts, Evans adding the conversion.

To their credit Rhiwbina kept battling and after a series of pick and drives crossed for a converted try, shortly after Llanishen thought they had scored a fifth when back row John Southcott broke away and fed Steff Boyd, but it was disallowed for a forward pass.

In the last minute Rhiwbina scored again in the corner to give a final score of Llanishen 25 Rhiwbina 15. Both sides played excellent rugby in a good spirit and the final was a great advert for Cardiff and District rugby.

Thanks to everyone who came along to give Llanishen brilliant support.
